FAQs
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
1
No. A referral is not required to access psychotherapy services.
What can I expect during the first session?
2
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss what brings you to therapy, and explore your goals. There is no expectation to share everything at once, and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Is therapy confidential?
3
Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship. Information shared in therapy will remain confidential except in circumstances where disclosure is required by law or where there are concerns about safety. These limits to confidentiality will be reviewed during the informed consent process.
How do virtual appointments work?
4
After booking your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with information about accessing your virtual session. Sessions are conducted through a secure online platform and can be attended from any private location within Ontario.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
5
Please provide at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed appointments, will be subject to the full session fee.
What’s the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
7
The terms counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably, and both involve talking with a trained mental health professional in a safe, supportive, and confidential space.
Generally, counselling tends to focus on addressing a specific concern or life challenge, while psychotherapy often explores deeper emotional patterns, past experiences, and the underlying factors that may be contributing to ongoing difficulties. The distinction isn't always clear-cut, and the approach depends on your unique needs and goals.
As a Registered Social Worker and psychotherapist, I provide psychotherapy that is tailored to you. Whether you're navigating a recent life transition, processing trauma, managing anxiety or depression, or working toward personal growth, we'll work collaboratively to determine what feels most helpful for your healing journey.
Can I work with you if I live outside Ontario?
6
At this time, I can only provide psychotherapy to clients who are physically located in Ontario at the time of their session. This is because I am registered to practise as a Registered Social Worker in Ontario, and professional registration requirements differ between provinces and territories.
This means that if you live in another province or territory and will be located there during your sessions, I am unfortunately unable to provide psychotherapy services to you at this time.
